Unless it functions as a server in some isolated place, all personal computers (PC) must have some kind of monitor to put data on view. Some years ago we primarily used CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors, but today we are shifting into LCD monitors. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat electronic visual display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals (LCs). LCs do not emit light directly. LCD monitors are available in many resolutions and sizes. Even, they are available in a wider range of screen sizes than CRTs.
LCD Monitors have many advantages. Compared to CRTs, they are usually more compact, lightweight, portable. It is very easy to put a LCD monitor on any table. Many LCD monitors have some extra functionality like HDMI input, USB hub, TV tuner, etc.

Even though they are high-priced compared to the conventional CRTs, LCD monitors are favored by the users for their qualitative superiority. In the market in general, the monitors are available with DVI and HDMI inputs. Another technical specification to consider is dot pitch and stripe pitch. Smaller dot pitch produces better image quality. Dot pitch is the space between two adjacent pixels on the monitor. Stripe pitch is the space between two adjacent stripes of the same colour and applicable to Trinitron or Diamondtron monitors. Lesser stripe pitch will result in better image quality.
Choice of a monitor depends on the use of the computer. LCD is considered as a sophisticated product. Conventional Cathode Ray Tube monitors are considered as outmoded by those who favor LCDs. Larger monitors are chosen by those who want it for multimedia tasks and gaming. LCDs are more energy efficient and offer safer disposal than CRTs. Its low electrical power consumption enables it to be used in battery-powered electronic equipment. In the long run savings on energy charges offset the cost factor.
